Work History: |
Joined the Royal Navy as a Seaman Officer in
1976 and then specialised in Minewarfare and Diving.
Spent 17 years in the Navy, including service in the
Falklands conflict, qualifying as a saturation diver
and manned submersible pilot and then spending 3
years in the Seabed Operations Vessel HMS
CHALLENGER. Spent 2 years in an exchange service
posting with the US Navy as an underwater ship
repair project officer. Last appointment was as
officer-in-charge of the diving team at the Faslane
submarine base in Scotland.
Left the RN in 1993 and went to work for Fraser
Diving International in safety and operations
management positions in Brunei and then Saudi
Arabia. After a short period working in Aberdeen
for an ROV manufacturer, joined HSE as a specialist
diving inspector in 1997. Promoted to Principal
Inspector in 2001 and became the Chief Inspector of
Diving in March 2002. |
